Cozy Corner Trails Inc. Teaches WIDNR ATV Safety Class & Pays Students Fees

Recently, volunteer instructors Greg Giese and Jim & Sue Smedegard, members of Cozy Corner Trails, Inc. (ATV & Snowmobile Club) in Danbury, WI, taught ATV safety to 17 students from Douglas, Burnett, and Polk Counties in Wisconsin, along with students from Minnesota. Assisting the instructors was Austin Reed, Burnett County Youth Rep to AWSC (Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs) as he works toward becoming a Junior Instructor. Mark Little, WDNR Recreational Safety Warden, spoke with the students on Saturday, as well.

All 17 students passed the 2-day, six hour course, for which all fees were paid by Cozy Corner Trails, Inc. The club members felt that it was well worth the money to hopefully avoid any further accidents resulting in injury or death to young people in our area.

NEW BUSINESS

Fire department got a snowmobile donated by the sheriff’s department – 2 were stolen from Wascott a while back, were donated to Town of Superior and Town of Dairyland – has 1400 miles on it – 700 long track, reverse.  Would like to get a rescue sled.  They come with optional wheels for atv’s, also – would the club be interested in helping fund this project?  They’re raffling off guns to pay for the trailer for it now.  They cost a little over $6000.   There’s nothing in the area like this.  Some got grants from other place.  Some manufacturers have grants available – Sue will look into that and bring back information to the December meeting.

E-15 discussed.  Read the magazine – there’s good information there.

Discussed Bill

MS Snowmobile Tour coming up

Madison Day – Thank Luther Olson and Jim Holperin for co-sponsoring the CAP/STEP.

Youth rep did well- food drive – every county with a youth rep brought food back for the local food shelves.

WATVA - Governors Trail Council is supporting the permanent UTV law – only 28 counties opted in, looks like it will pass.

Northwest Trails meeting –Map – sat down with Arrowhead printing, proofing on 21st – goal to get out by December meeting.

Sue brought up a suggestion to pay commercial sponsorship for businesses – Dean felt they get good advertising for their money.  Asked question about costs of advertising in the area.  Map ads are $125 in Douglas County, $75 in Burnett County.

Douglas County has no other fundraisers.  Burnett County gets paid for trail maintenance.

Motion to include commercial sponsorship in business dues by Greg Giese, second by Mickey Johnson.  Motion carried.

Dean suggests we get a gun for a bar raffle – Greg Giese will pick up a gun on Monday.

Next meeting December 3, 9:30 AM – Moose Junction Lounge.

Booya – tickets available – will be distributed at December meeting – they are at Hillside & Cozy Corner Inn if you want to pick them up earlier.
